Go out too fast, and you risk burning out. Start too slow, and you might leave time on the course. Finding your perfect race pace takes practice, patience, and trust in your training.

Here’s how to get it right:

✅ Use Your Training Runs – Your long runs, tempo workouts, and race simulations should guide your goal pace. Pay attention to what feels sustainable over distance.

✅ Master Even Splits – Resist the urge to “bank time” early in the race. Instead, aim for a consistent pace throughout—your legs will thank you at mile 20!

✅ Listen to Your Breath – The Talk Test is a great pacing tool. If you can chat in short sentences, you’re in the right zone. If you’re gasping for air, slow it down!

✅ Incorporate Goal Pace Miles – During long runs, add sections at your marathon goal pace. This helps your body and mind adjust to race-day effort.

✅ Trust Your Training & Run Smart – You’ve put in the work. Stick to your plan, keep your emotions in check, and execute with confidence!

The Canadian running community mourns the loss of

The Canadian running community mourns the loss of Jerome Drayton, who passed away on February 10, 2025, at the age of 80.⁠
⁠
Drayton was a true pioneer in Canadian distance running, holding the Canadian men's marathon record for 43 years with his incredible 2:10:08 performance at the 1975 Fukuoka Marathon. Drayton originally set the Canadian record in 1969, just one month after Robert Moore's previous mark of 2:18:55.⁠
⁠
His record stood until Cam Levins broke it in October 2018, running 2:09:25 at the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon. ⁠
⁠
A three-time Fukuoka Marathon champion, 1977 Boston Marathon winner, and two-time Olympian (1968 & 1976), Drayton's achievements defined an era in Canadian distance running. His legacy of determination and excellence continues to inspire generations.⁠
