Ontario MPP Mike Colle, is confirmed to run the full 42.195km marathon at this year's Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon
Put a PLEDGE on him for "Run For Sight" on behalf of the Foundation Fighting Blindness
"On September 28, 2008, I will be running the Toronto Waterfront Marathon after a short 24 year layoff (I ran my last marathon on Sept 30 1984). My previous best time was 3:29. This time I'm hoping I can make it to the finish line standing up!
"I will be raising money to help find a cure for blindness. I will be part of the Run For Sight team on behalf of the Foundation Fighting Blindness. Put a pledge on me and come out to the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon and cheer me on!!"
When he's not out running and training for "the big one", Mike is running hard as MPP for Eglinton-Lawrence in Toronto and Chief Whip for the Ontario Liberal Party in the current Ontario Legislature. First elected in '95, he's also served as Minister of Citizenship and Immigration and as Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Finance. "This will be one of the toughest challenges I've faced," says MPP Colle. "Your cheers and any pledges you can manage will definitely inspire me!"
"We're thrilled that Mike Colle is doing the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon," said Race Director Alan Brookes. "This is becoming a major Ontario Liberal tradition, with George Smitherman going the full 42.195k in 2006. I think they're the only politicians who've gone the whole marathon distance at our event. That's impressive! Can Mike beat George's time of 5 hours, 9 minutes, 40 seconds?"
