Every participant in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon, Half Marathon and 5k has a dream of reaching the finish line.
APPLAUD
Over 16,000 runners from more than 41 countries will cross our finish line, making a multi-million dollar impact on our city in the process. Last year the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon raised over $1.4M for 65 Toronto charities—including the Alzheimer Society and the Mon Sheong Foundation. This year our goal is $1.5M! With your support, we can make it happen!
We work closely with the City, Police, TTC, and City Councillors to minimize disruptions and inconveniences for Toronto residents on September 27th. Please read below to learn of closures and detours in your neighbourhood and share this information with your residents and customers.
More importantly, come out and support the 16,000 dreamers in the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon!
CHEER
Visit the Neighbourhood Entertainment Centre (NCE) in YOUR Neighbourhood
- Wellington Street at Bay Street (7:00am–2:00pm)
On the morning of the 27th, a team of celebrity judges will determine which of the neighbourhoods along our course has the best Cheering and Entertainment Centre. The best centre will be judged by how many people are out cheering, the quality of entertainment and the atmosphere. The three winning neighbourhoods will be awarded $6,000, $3,000 and $2,000 for their official charity! Help them win! Come out and cheer on September 27th.
Downtown Road Closures
during the annual
Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon,
Half Marathon and 5k on September 27th, 2009
Access:
- Spadina Ave. will REMAIN OPEN ALL DAY for uninterrupted North-South traffic and Gardiner Expressway access. This is THE ONLY way in and out for downtown traffic.
- Traffic from the Don Valley southbound can also take the Richmond Street exit. However, once downtown, if heading west of Church Street, traffic must first head north on Church Street to at least Dundas Street before continuing west.
- Eastbound and Westbound downtown traffic can flow uninterrupted all day on Dundas Street, and all cross-streets north of Dundas Street. Example: A Royal York patron going to the airport can go east on Front Street, north on Church Street, west on Dundas Street, south on Spadina Avenue, to the Gardiner Expressway on-ramp
Closures:
Road closures for the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon include, but are not limited to:
- Saturday, September 26th @ 12pm until Sunday, September 27th @ 6pm: Bay Street from Queen Street to Dundas Street, Hagerman Street, Albert Street, James Street (local access available)
- Sunday, September 27th (4am–11am): Armoury Street (local access available)
- Sunday, September 27th (5am–8:15am): Wellington Street from Bay Street to Parliament Street
- Sunday, September 27th (6am–2pm): Bay Street from Queen St. to Queens Quay
- Sunday, September 27th: Lakeshore Boulevard from Windermere to Don Roadway (6am – 11am west of Bay Street / 6am to 1pm east of Bay Street)
- Sunday, September 27th (8am–12pm): Queens Quay Eastbound Lanes from Stadium Road to Parliament at Lakeshore.
- Sunday, September 27th (6am–2pm): Bremner Blvd from Spadina Avenue to York Street and Lower Simcoe St. Between Bremner Blvd and Lakeshore Blvd.
Note: Paid-duty police will be at all major intersections to safely direct traffic around and through gaps in the runners, i.e. at Bathurst, Rees, York, Harbour Square.
