Every week in Canada at least one woman is murdered by her partner. This is only the tip of the iceberg. For every woman murdered, there are 1,500 women and children who go to a shelter to escape abuse and tens of thousands more who call for help.
Women are reaching out for help on the Internet from their workplaces, homes, public libraries and schools and linking them to local shelters is an essential part of a community-based response to violence against women. With your generous support, Shelternet for Abused Women makes a difference by:
Shelternet for Abused Women is a national not-for-profit organization committed to preventing violence against women and their children. We encourage you to visit www.shelternet.ca where you will find a state-of-the-art clickable map of Canada with information on local shelters and helplines; a cultural and linguistic translation of the website into 10 different languages; a "Just for Kids" section for children and youth who have witnessed violence and so much more.
The Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is one of our biggest fundraisers and this year, we have set a fundraising goal of $50,000. With your help, we can continue our important work—making the links for abused women.
