Do you enjoy running — or power walking? Are you thinking about trying a 5k, half marathon or marathon for the first time? Why not accomplish your goal and help us accomplish ours? We'd love to have you join our team at the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon this fall.
1 out of every 150 children is diagnosed with autism, and it is estimated there are over 3500 individuals affected by autism living in Durham Region. Autism is a life-long developmental disability affecting communication, behaviour and social skills. Although there is treatment for autism, there is no cure.
Autism Ontario — Durham Region is a regional chapter of Autism Ontario, a charitable organization dedicated to ensuring that every individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder is provided the means to achieve quality of life as a respected member of society. Our chapter is comprised of parents and others who volunteer their time to fulfill the chapter's mission to provide information, support, friendship and more to families affected by autism in our community.
For our third year, we are participating as an official charity of the 2009 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon / Half Marathon/ 5k Charity Challenge. We participate to help raise awareness about autism, as well as raise much-needed funds to meet the ever-increasing demand for our programs and services offered throughout the year, including our parent support groups, family funding program, resource, education and awareness programs, and various social and recreational activities for individuals with autism and their families.
Joining our team entitles you to a discounted registration fee of $25 for the 5 km event, and $50 for the Marathon or Half-Marathon. (Please contact us for details prior to registering).
